“The Hobbit” star Martin Freeman will be joining the cast of “Captain America: Civil War.” This may be the first superhero movie for the actor who has played diverse roles in his acting career. The producers did not reveal the name of the character he will be playing in the movie.

Martin Freeman is popular for playing the role of Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” trilogy. Marvel has now announced on its official website that the actor will be a part of the upcoming movie “Captain America: Civil War.”

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," said Kevin Feige, the producer of “Captain America: Civil War.” The producer also added that the film makers “couldn't be more honored or excited” about Martin Freeman now being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Enumerating the various accomplishments of Martin Freeman, Marvel noted that the actor has won praise for his role in “Sherlock,” “Fargo” and “The Hobbit” trilogy. The actor has won a Primetime Emmy Award and one BAFTA Award. He has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, two Emmy Awards and two BAFTA Awards.

Martin Freeman will be joining the two lead actors Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in “Captain America: Civil War.” Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will be seen leading their respective factions of superheroes in the movie, with each faction having its own opinion about a new legislation by governments across the globe.

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans will be reprising their roles as Tony Stark and Chris Evans in the upcoming movie. Some of the other cast members in the movie are Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch.

Some of the other actors from the “Avengers” movies, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, will not be seen in the upcoming movie. “Captain America: Civil War” is slated to be released on April 29, 2016 in Australia, UK and New Zealand. Fans of the franchise in the U.S will get to see the movie on May 6, 2016 in the theaters.
