Chris Hemsworth will not be reprising his role as god of Thunder in “Captain America: Civil War.” The actor indirectly admitted he will not be back as Thor in the sequel during an interview about his contract with Marvel.

In an interview with Collider about his Marvel character, Chris Hemsworth revealed Thor still has 3 more movies left before fans will finally bid farewell to the character on screen. When pressed for more details, the actor revealed the titles of these movies, which include “Thor: Ragnarok” and the two-part film “Avengers: Infinity War.” I’m three films away from that happening [the end of my contract]; I’ve got Avengers 3 and 4 and I’ve got Thor 3,” he said.

According to JoBlo, Chris Hemsworth’s revelation about his Marvel contract also seems to confirm that he will not be back as Thor in “Captain America: Civil War.” His statements also confirmed Badass Digest’s speculation that Thor won’t be in the sequel.

Writer Devin Faraci once said that he’s seen a couple of drafts for the film where it clearly doesn’t show Chris Hemsworth’s name on the cast list nor reveal any Thor scenes. Likewise, it reportedly wouldn’t make sense for Chris Hemsworth to reprise his role in “Captain America: Civil War” since by this time he would have already been preparing himself for “Thor: Ragnarok.” According to Faraci, by this time Thor would have gone back to “Asgard to deal with the events leading up to Thor: Ragnarok.”

Chris Hemsworth’s comment about his Marvel contract also contradicts a previous report from Bleeding Cool, which states that Thor and Hulk will be back in “Captain: America Civil War.” It’s believed Thor will join Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man, who’s been confirmed to have cameo roles in the sequel.

Faraci said that along with Thor, Hulk will likely also not appear in “Captain America: Civil War.” Both characters will reportedly sit the film out until the second film of “Avengers: Infinity War.” However, Chris Hemsworth said he will also be appearing in the first “Avengers: Infinity War” film despite rumours it will only focus on the new Avengers members including Doctor Strange and Black Panther.
