Just when America and the rest of the world thought that they have been keeping close watch on the Kardashians and the Jenners, it appears that there remains a lot to learn about them. After months or even years of speculation, family patriarch Bruce Jenner has finally cleared the air about allegations that he is transitioning into a woman. Bruce's words to veteran journalist Diane Sawyer were simple: “For all intents and purposes, I’m a woman.”

The much-anticipated two-hour special of the ABC news program, “20/20,” was dedicated to Bruce and his revelation. The interview aired on Friday, April 24, and millions of Kardashian and Jenner fans around the world watched as the man they thought they knew finally confirmed what many have suspected for a long time. He is now classified as a transgender.

The former Olympian and race car driver admits that he has a macho image. He was described by his former race buddy Scott Pruett as a stud. However, Bruce tells Sawyer that the female side is part of his identity. He goes on to say that he has been living a lie all his life and that his brain is more female than it is male regardless of how difficult it is for other people to understand.

Cross-dressing

Bruce admitted during the interview that this is not something new to him. His cross-dressing started way back when he was about eight or nine years old. It started with his mother’s and sisters’ clothes which he would put on when he was left alone in the house.

As an adult, Bruce continued to do the same. As a well-travelled athlete, motivational speaker and celebrity, he would find opportunities to cross-dress when he checks into hotels far away from home.

Who knew about it?

Bruce revealed that even though his cross-dressing and gender identity issues were kept secret, some people in his life knew about it. He says that his three ex-wives knew about his struggle including his wife of 23 years, Kris Jenner. He also said that his sister knew about it but his mother and his 10 children only learned about it recently.

He is well-known to be the stepdad of the wildly famous Kardashian siblings, namely, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert. His six biological children, Cassandra, Brandon, Brody, Kendall and Kylie, have also been enjoying some level of fame. Being part of a famous family has caused cameras to be trained on him at all times. Photographers have been capturing Bruce wearing women’s clothing and occasionally some makeup or nail polish over the past several months, and this has brought speculations regarding his sexuality to an all-time high. With the rumours hitting a breaking point, Bruce chose to set the record straight and reveal everything on his own terms through the interview with Sawyer.

What happens next?

“As of now, I have all the male parts.” says Bruce. He tells Sawyer that even though he would consider them both to be women, they are still very different from each other. Bruce thinks that he will be able to make a real difference in the world especially because of his fame. He tells Sawyer that this is not a publicity stunt but he is happy that “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” has put him in a position to do something good.

Bruce explains that he has been living a lie and he cannot hide behind the curtain any longer. He says that if he gets diagnosed with a terminal disease very soon or something happens to him, he will be mad at himself for not coming out and exploring the other side he long kept secret.

Now that the truth is out, there will be no more hiding. It remains to be seen how Bruce will choose to live his life as a woman out in the open. His entire family have reacted with messages of support and the public has been giving mixed reactions. The Bruce Jenner saga continues, and one can be certain that the TV cameras and the photographers won’t be far behind.
