British PM David Cameron wants Google and other search engine companies to do something about the proliferation of child pornography on the Internet.

Cameron said lives are at risk if child porn if search engines like Google, continue to bring up graphic and sexual images of children on Internet search results.

Cameron said he was disgusted and sickened by the images for child porn online. Search engines like Google and Yahoo should stop making excuses. The search engine companies were summoned by Cameron's adviser and Culture Secretary Maria Miller to a round-table meeting on June 17.

According to the research conducted by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), data suggests that more than half of those who viewed child porn images online went on to commit child sexual abuse. A number of studies in the past also showed a strong relationship between child porn and sexual abuse. Exposure to child porn especially images on the Internet encourages criminal sexual intent.

Last month, Mark Bridger was convicted for killing a little girl named April Jones who was only 5 years old. Authorities found a collection of 65 images in his computer files.

British PM Cameron says child pornography "pollutes the Internet" and encourages mentally disturbed individuals to commit acts of child abuse. Part of the services of search engines like Google is to categorise search results according to keywords.

The round-table meeting aims to call on Internet companies and use their technical abilities to do something more than just root out images of sexual abuse. More steps should be taken by these companies to prevent the spread of child porn in the Internet. Currently, access to child porn is easy by typing only the keywords on search engines.

The meeting between Internet search giants is a sign that the industry is willing to participate in the fight against child pornography. Cameron says the time for excuses is over and more can be done about child porn when all parties involved will work together.
