Oscar De La Hoya, the chief for Golden Boy Promotions, is showing real interest in the potential Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight and even goes on in saying that he hopes the undefeated American chooses the Filipino as his next opponent because it will help the entire industry of the sport.

"You have Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto and obviously you have Manny Pacquiao. I'm really hoping it is Pacquiao, because that's the fight the whole industry wants to see, that's the fight that will revitalize the whole industry," De La Hoya said to boxingscene.com. "[and that] will shatter records in boxing. I'm hoping that fight does happen. We'll just wait and see, but if it doesn't then Canelo will obviously go on May 2nd."

Thus far, Mayweather has yet to select a fight and the three fighters mentioned by De La Hoya has been rumoured to be among the choices by Mayweather for his next fight in 2015. Pacquiao is the number one option and one of Khan or Cotto is Plan B. Cotto has had negotiations with Canelo “Saul” Alvarez for the May 2, 2015 fight but talks broke down and eventually Alvarez picked James Kirkland . Alvarez fights under the umbrella of De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

De La Hoya’s contention is simple in that if the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happens it will give the boxing public the fight that has been wanted by most of its fans since 2010. If it happens, it is expected to break the pay-per-view record in boxing set by Mayweather and Alvarez which generated $150 million in revenue after 2.2 million pay-per-view buys in 2013. According to estimates by boxing experts, the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout could bring over 3.5 million pay-per-view buys.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, which has reportedly a $250 million fight purse to be shared by both, is still not finalised with the latest development coming from Mayweather, who said he wanted the fight to happen but no contracts has been signed by both sides yet. Pacquiao also admitted that no deal is done yet and that fans should be patient and wait for the announcement of the fight which will come from the Mayweather side.
