Oscar De La Hoya is dead serious in pitting Canelo Alvarez versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the battle for the May 2, 2015 fight date if the undefeated American still can’t agree with Manny Pacquiao to fight on the said date. The boxing legend’s recent statement is a clear message for Mayweather and that he is not afraid of bringing the Mexican Alvarez head to head for pay-per-view, or PPV, battle with the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

“Look, I'm going full steam ahead with May 2nd. We're going full steam ahead with May 2nd. We're going to announce the ticket [details] shortly. Canelo-Kirkland, May 2nd, from Texas. The only way we're moving is if Pacquiao-Mayweather happens. That's the only fight that's going to move,” De La Hoya said to boxingscene.com.

Aside from the possible venue being named plus that they’ll only move Canelo Alvarez vs. James Kirkland to give way for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, De La Hoya also said that the Plan B is moving the Alvarez fight from May 2 to May 9 and that they already reserved the second date with HBO Sports.

De La Hoya insisted that if it’s Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto or Mayweather vs. Amir Khan on May 2, there is no way they’ll give way to those fights and will only move for Pacquiao because it’s the fight that boxing fans want for a long time now.
The venue for the Canelo vs. Kirkland fight is possibly the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and De La Hoya is said to be confident that they can pack the stadium with a sellout crowd of 65,000 paying fans.

Mayweather and Pacquiao negotiations are still on-going although there are signs that the fight will be finally be announced. Recent reports have stated that some of the broadcasting details are already finalised although there are still other issues to be discussed.

The 24 year old Alvarez is one of the promising fighters in the super welterweight division. The Mexican has one loss in 46 pro bouts and that came against Mayweather in Sept. 2013. James Kirkland, who is from Austin, Texas, is a southpaw who has a record of 32 wins, 28 by knockouts and 1 loss.
