Having had spent most of his career as a trainer for Manny Pacquiao, Buboy Fernandez, the assistant to Freddie Roach stated in an interview that Pacquiao has learned his lessons the hard way and matured as a boxer in the knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez two years ago and that Pacquiao will penetrate Floyd Mayweather’s defence when they meet on May 2, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Mayweather has not fought in his entire career a fighter with so much power, speed and a fearless heart like Manny Pacquiao. His defence would be shattered,” Fernandez said to the South China Morning Post on Friday.

“He has learned a big lesson out of that [knockout loss to Marquez]. He became more cautious and has matured a lot as a fighter. He is a fearless fighter inside the ring. In his desire to end the fight in a convincing fashion just to make the fans happy, he went for the kill in the dying seconds of the sixth round. And he paid dearly for it.”

Pacquiao suffered the fifth loss of his career on Dec, 12, 2012 against Mexican Marquez, who dealt Pacquiao a devastating knockout blow in the sixth round of their fight at the MGM Grand Arena, the same arena where Mayweather and Pacquiao will face off. Pacquiao has since won three bouts in a row, against Brandon Rios in 2013 and against Timothy Bradley and Chris Algieri in 2014.

Mayweather is undefeated in 47 pro career fights with recent victories over Marcos Maidana in May and September of 2014 and Saul Alvarez in 2013. Mayweather also beat Pacquiao’s nemesis in Marquez in a 2009 meeting. Both Mayweather and Pacquiao will be fighting for the first time in 2015 in what many boxing observers see as the biggest fight in the history of the sport.

Aside from saying that Pacquiao has matured and has already learned his lessons from the knockout loss to Marquez, Fernandez also stated that Pacquiao’s punches are now “sharper and harder” compared to before. Fernandez is a close friend of Pacquiao and has been with the boxer since Pacquiao's childhood.

Mayweather and Pacquiao have already started their training camps for the super fight and will attend the lone press conference for the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout on March 11, 2015 in the United States.
