Although recent reports state that Amir Khan has pulled out of talks about a possible clash with the Filipino Boxing icon, the Bolton welterweight has been linked as the favourite for Manny Pacquiao’s comeback fight opponent early next year. However, Khan appears to have renewed his hope to land a fight with Pacquiao; but if negotiations fail to develop, the British boxer has plenty of options to choose from.

In an interview with Boxing News Online’s John Dennen, Khan revealed he has been promised a fight with Pacquiao, but the 28-year-old boxer does not want to be in the same spot as he was when he was trying to lure Floyd Mayweather Jr for a boxing match. Khan was turned down by Mayweather several times, ending up with his next option to fight Pacquiao.

“To be honest with you I’ve just left it with my team, I am looking at other opponents at the same time,” Khan told Boxing News Online at the World championship in Doha. “If it doesn’t happen I’ve got plan B.”

Khan confessed his plan B if all fails in fighting the former eight-division titlist, who is currently recovering from a surgery that repaired his torn rotator cuff suffered against Mayweather in May. Khan said that talks for a fight with British rival Kell Brook “can happen,” while other possible options include Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, who both holds wins over the Bolton fighter and are also stablemates under Al Haymon.

Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has won his last five fights ever since his back-to-back loss against Garcia and Peterson. While Khan only won four of his five previous matches via unanimous decision, he is convinced he has become a “better fighter” and has learned from his mistakes.

“Having a loss in my career has definitely made me a better fighter,” Khan added. “You go back to the drawing board and you make sure you do the right things next time.”

Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum originally had Khan on top of his five-man list of possible opponent in Pacquiao’s return to the boxing ring in 2016. Arum then confirmed that Khan was not the frontrunner to fight Pacquiao with negotiations still hanging, which made the British international disappointed with Pacquiao’s team, according to The National .
