Veteran boxer Shane Mosley believes Canelo Alvarez of Mexico has the advantage in speed while Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico has the edge in power when the pair meets in their bout set on Nov. 21, 2015 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“The speed goes to Canelo but the power, kind of, is with Cotto,” the 44-year-old Mosley told FightHype.com when asked to compare the two rivals set to fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight belt later this year.

Mosley is one of the few fighters that fought both Cotto and Alvarez in previous years. Mosley knows of Cotto’s power when he lost to the Puerto Rican in 12 rounds via unanimous decision at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2007. The American also went the distance with Alvarez in 2012 and again lost via unanimous decision.

Despite being in his mid-40s already, Mosley is still an active fighter in the sport and recently beat Ricardo Mayorga via a sixth round knockout. Mosley has been one of the more successful fighters in the sport facing quality opponents like Cotto, Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Antonio Margarito, Fernando Vargas, Oscar De La Hoya and Vernon Forrest, among many others in a pro career that started in 1993.

With Mayweather, who was previously the no. 1 pound-for-pound boxer, retiring from the sport last September, the winner of the Cotto vs. Canelo fight will most likely decide which fighter will be among the top guys in the sport.

International Boxing Federation (IBF), International Boxing Organization (IBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan easily dispatched Canadian challenger David Lemieux last Saturday to become the hottest commodity in the sport.

The winner of the Cotto vs. Canelo bout will most likely be considered for a fight against Golovkin to decide the undisputed champion in the middleweight division.
