Dimitrious Gargasoulas had gay tendencies according to his brother's ex-boyfriend Shaun Schembri. According to Schembri, he thought that it was his boyfriend Angelo whom he kissed in a club. However, he realised that he kissed the wrong person. He claimed that Gargasoulas wanted to come home with him during the kissing incident in the club.

Gargasoulas fought over with his brother because of the sexuality issue. His mom recalled that he wanted to kill all gays, poofters and lesbians. He was accused of stabbing Angelo in the face before setting off on a rampage in Bourke Street. They were with their mother Emily in her public housing apartment in Windsor. Emily said that she was ashamed that the attacker was her son.

The Bourke Street Mall attacker has posted homosexual-related posts on Facebook stating that in his 10 commandments no homosexual shall rule the earth. However, his Facebook friends thought that he was not himself anymore because of the weird status on his social media account. He answered back by posting, "This matter is seprate [sic] to gods saying you dare insult me you shall pay for your sins then i [sic] would like my bond money back."

Gargasoulas was charged five counts of murder but it could increase once the police completed their investigation. His case is due in court on Aug. 1 for a special mention.
