Dimitrious Gargasoulas's girlfriend posted a cryptic message about love on her Facebook page on Sunday in the wake of the Bourke Street Mall massacre. The 25-year-old Akiir Laurinda Muo is a Sudanese immigrant and a professional hair braider. She was reported to have been in the process of breaking up with Gargasoulas before the massacre.

“When I close my eyes — I miss you, when I open my eyes — I want you, when tears fill my eyes — I need you, Now I realise how madly I love you,” Muo posted on her Facebook. Just six days before the incident the couple was exchanging messages on their Facebook. Gargasoulas ordered Muo on his post to get back to him.

Muo revealed that on Friday, Gargasoulas had taken her hostage for four hours in the car before letting her out. They were driving around Melbourne when they ended up on the Bolte Bridge. She was told by her boyfriend to leave the car when the police and divvy vans surrounded the car on the Boltre Bridge.

“I told him can you jump out with me at least, you know, like just turn yourself in, don’t make this any harder, like you can see they have guns everywhere. I was begging him to stop but he just wouldn’t,” Muo said.

Gargasoulas was charged with five counts of murder but he would not step inside a courtroom until 2018 and he would only appear via video link. He would stay in custody on remand while the case against him is being built by the police and prosecutors. The prosecutors asked the court to prepare the brief of evidence for nine months due to the unprecedented nature of the case. He is expected to return to court on Aug. 1 for special mention while on Dec. 15 he would appear on a committal mention hearing.
