"The Blacklist" reveals a little and holds back a lot. It teases its audience, making them wonder who is hiding what and who is framing who.

The seventh episode of "The Blacklist," "Frederick Barnes," took us to the house of Red, provided a little glimpse of his life in the past and then annihilated that house. In the episode, Red said that he spent every day trying to forget what happened in that house. The destruction might not provide a closure but it will bury some of the memories, and raises a number of questions in the mind of the viewers.

In the episode "Frederick Barnes," Frederick Barnes is killing people by exposing them to a rare, incurable vascular disorder, which comes from nuclear materials, so that he can come-up with an antidote for his son. His son is suffering from the same, rare disease. The pharmaceutical companies are not willing to spend money on finding a possible cure for the disease as people suffering from it are very few. It is not a profitable venture for the companies.

The son's disease has made the designer of destructive tools, the delivery man, which according to Red makes him one of the most dangerous men in the world. Frederick Barnes has the tools to kill millions and millions of people.

Frederick Barnes is a former defence research scientist. According to one of his female colleagues, he was the best. She did not know why he quit the organisation. Liz and Agent Ressler discover that the relationship between the woman and Frederick Barnes was much more than a professional relationship. The father of her son, who is suffering from the incurable disease, is Frederick Barnes.

Since the pharmaceutical companies are not coming-up with a possible cure, Frederick Barnes decided to come-up with the antidote. As part of his experiment, he kills 37 people in a subway car by exposing them to chemicals, containing the nuclear material that causes the disease. The next stop for him is a court-room. He is able to unleash his diabolic experiment before Liz and Agent Ressler can stop him. All the people in the court-room die, except a female. The female's body is resistant to the disease. Frederick Barnes sneaks into the hospital room to take her blood sample to prepare the antidote for his son. The mother of his son does not want him near the boy, while the boy is scared of him. Before Frederick Barnes can give his son the shot, Liz shoots him down.

FBI was clueless about Frederick Barnes' identity despite subway security cameras capturing him, clearly. Red calls-up to provide the information and Liz had to communicate with him despite her grudge. For Red, it is no fun without Liz.

Liz wants to make a new start with her husband and forget that someone tried to invade their lives by planting the box. Tom and Liz are enjoying their tender moments. Red tells her that it is easier to blame him for framing her husband than facing the truth and it's not yet the end of the story.

At the end of the episode, Red annihilated his house where he once lived a happy life, with his family. The episodes make it evident that something happened in the past that made Red one of the most wanted FBI men. There are a lot of past mysteries beneath the surface.

The episode "Frederick Barnes" was not explosive or exciting compared to the previous episodes.
