The opening scene of “Black Sails” season 4 has been released online. An action sequence is featured right off the bat, along with a conversation between Flint and Long John Silver about the challenges they face in the final lap of the war against the British.

[Spoiler alert]

Long John Silver (Luke Arnold) is struggling to cut himself loose from some rope while he is underwater in the opening scene. There is action happening above the surface, in what may be the pirates fighting the British Navy. Guns and fragments of broken ships fall all around Silver.

The voice over in the scene appears to be that of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens). He tells the story from the Bible, Genesis 25, which is about two children in the womb of Rebekah. God told her two nations are within her womb, one would be stronger than the other and the older shall serve the younger.

The opening action sequence in “Black Sails” season 4 is only a tease, as the scene quickly moves on to the conversation of Flint and Long John Silver. The pirate captain explains how even the twin children of Rebekah in the Bible fought each other. The story is pertinent to the present situation, in which most of the pirates have at one point planned to kill his fellow man. Most of the pirates have also at one point thought about killing Flint.

Another big challenge for the pirates is their shaky alliance with the former slaves, which could break at any time if the situation becomes challenging. Long John Silver points out that the pirates have been loyal so far, and jokes that even he has not thought about killing Flint for a few months now. The one legged pirate will be the one to once again maintain the alliance in “Black Sails” season 4.
