Ever since it was released, "The Binding of Isaac" has been praised for its dark atmosphere and its challenging gameplay, instantly making it a hit amongst PC gamers. The title has since been re-released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 as “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth,” and now the game officially becomes a cross-platform title as it heads to Xbox One, Wii U and the new 3DS XL later this year.

While the game was announced for the aforementioned consoles on April 1, many did not believe it due to the possibility of the news being an April Fool's joke. Edmund McMillen later confirmed in a blog post that it was not a joke and that the game would indeed be coming to the Microsoft and Nintendo platforms, with the developer stating that the title could only be in the new 3DS because it was almost unplayable in the older version.

McMillen also detailed some of the censorship issues he knew he would face when porting the title to Nintendo’s platforms and how he got over them. The lead character Isaac, for example, is no longer nude and will have a leaf that will cover the character’s unmentionables. The creator also had to remove the Christian imagery in the game, oddly enough by replacing the symbols with other symbols seen in Scientology.

Aside from those notable changes, the game appears to be the same dark, dungeon-exploring RPG that fans adored when it first came out. Since this will be the “Rebirth” edition, expect all the newly added features like new items, characters, endings and game modes.

In related news, it has also been reported that a new item called the “friend ball” would be available. It can be used to capture enemies, excluding bosses, and can later be used to attack other enemies. According to Siliconera, it is basically a Pokeball from the “Pokemon” series, though it doesn’t seem like the newly captured enemies will stay with players forever like in the Nintendo game series.

No release date has been revealed for the Xbox and Nintendo versions, though McMillen states that he will be giving updates to the game regularly. Currently, “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” is available on Steam, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4.
