Avid followers of CBS series “The Big Bang Theory” will be dismayed after learning that their favourite long-running sitcom is nearing its end. The tenth season of the show is expected to be the last one, as indicated by showrunner Steven Molaro.

On being asked if the show will bid adieu to the viewers after its 10th season, Steven Molaro responded by saying, “I think so.”

“I can’t speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we’ll be then, but it’s certainly possible that it could go past that. The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point. The real answer is I don’t know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can,” The Hollywood Reporter (THR) quoted Molaro.

“There’s still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn’t be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line,” he added.

Co-creator Chuck Lorre also isn’t sure that the show is likely to end after another season. “The Big Bang Theory” is currently in its ninth season and is raking in good viewership.

“I’m not going to presume to know how many years this has because it’s ridiculous for me to guess. It’s already gone beyond my wildest dreams so anything beyond this … as long as everybody is having a good time and we’re making a show we’re proud of … then it’s worth continuing,” THR reported.

This news can come as a shocker to those who are aware of the fact that the three lead characters of the show Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Kaley Cuoco (Penny) and Jim Parsons (Sheldon) packed a three-year deal in August 2014. The deal helped the actors to earn $1 million USD per episode.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
