Studies had shown that the summer fruit watermelon is good for men who want a few more inches on their manhood because of its amino acid which encourages dilation of blood vessels. Now, Beyonce is singing her praises too for watermelon, not lemonade – the title of her new album.

Woman’s Day report that besides considering watermelon juice her sexy workout partner and bedroom friend, the singer has even invested and purchased a stake in WTRMLN WTR, a cold-pressed juice. A bottle combines watermelon rind, flesh and lemon juice.

Beyonce says the drink is the future of clean, natural hydration. In buying a stake in the company, she says she went beyond investing on a brand and is an investment as well in female leaders, fitness, American partners and the people’s and planet Earth’s health.

The diva says the juice helps in the body’s muscular performance and recovery by providing one-third of the daily requirement of potassium needed for all cells, tissues and organs to function well. It also contains L-citrulline, an amino acid which helps cardiovascular health since it is a red fruit, meaning it contains lycopene, an antioxidant that benefits respiratory health and fights cancer.

But a health expert, New Orleans dietician Molly Kimball, points out that a cup of watermelon in its juiced form contains 12 grammes of natural sugar and the drink does not have sufficient fibre to balance out the sugar. It also lacks salt, a vital electrolyte often lost in exercise, reports Huffington Post.

But Kimball adds that WTRMLM WTR is still a good alternative for people fond of sweet drinks than a fizzy soda. The dietician recommends drinking it together with some protein such as a boiled egg or nuts to balance the drink’s nutritional properties.

Glycemic index expert Meri Reffetto adds that while watermelon could appear like a high-glycemic index food because of its glycemic index of 72, it actually has a very low-glycemic load because it has a lot of water, plus high levels of vitamins C and A.
