“Beauty and the Beast” fans recently received the sad news regarding the fate of the CW TV series. The CW television network has confirmed on Tuesday that the upcoming “Beauty and the Beast” Season 4 will be the last run of the romance-suspense series that stars Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan as Catherine Chandler Keller and Vincent Keller, respectively.

The ratings performance of “Beauty and the Beast” is considered to be the main reason why the CW decided to end the TV series. The Hollywood Reporter (THR) claims that the 22-episode run of “Beauty and the Beast” Season 1 had an average of 1.61 million total viewers.

However, “Beauty and the Beast” Season 3, which is the show’s first 13-episode order, only had an average of 879,000 total viewers. THR further notes that the conclusion of “Beauty and the Beast” comes with the packed airing schedule as well as the renewal and addition of new shows in the CW Network.

Aside from renewing almost all of the original shows, the CW Network has also picked up three new TV series for 2015-2016, starting with the fall debut of the musical comedy-drama TV series titled “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” The CW will still have to set the airing schedule of the “Arrow/Flash” spinoff series, titled “Legends of Tomorrow,” and Julie Plec’s new drama series, titled “Containment.”

Despite the show’s imminent end, Variety reports that “Beauty and Beast” was recognised for having a dedicated fan base, which includes CW president, Mark Pedowitz. At the CW’s Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour, Pedowitz admitted that he likes “Beauty and the Beast” as a summer series.

“One of our stated goals for the network was to have year-round programming. We’re doing more and more of this, and having ‘Beauty and the Beast’ gives us some scripted programming for summer. We are developing other things at this point for next summer. So I plan to keep it there,” Pedowitz told the reporters.

“Beauty and the Beast” Season 4, developed by Sherri Cooper-Landsman and Jennifer Levin based on the 1987 CBS series of the same title, is scheduled to wrap up production in November. The CW TV series is expected to air its 13-episode fourth season sometime in the midseason or summer of 2016.
