The Beatles' "Let It Be" concert opens at Broadway's St. James Theatre in New York tonight, July 24 until December 29. Meanwhile, creators of a rival tribute show is suing the producers of the Broadway production claiming that "Let It Be" is based from their show, "Rain - A Tribute to the Beatles."

"Let It Be" is produced by Annerin and LIB London Limited. The show first opened in London's West End on September 2012 to celebrate The Beatles' 50th anniversary.

The show chronicles the Beatles' humble beginnings from Liverpool's Cavern Club and their rise to fame through live performances of 40 of the legendary band's greatest hits including "Drive My Car," "Come Together," "Hey Jude," "Twist and Shout" and "Let It Be". It will feature projection technology and 3D sound.

On the other hand, Annerin and LIB London Limited rival, Rain Corporation, argued that the show was a "derivative wor..that incorporates much of the book from "Rain - A Tribute," as well as the video footage, artwork and staging."

Moreover, Rain corporation also claimed that the musical arrangement of "Let It Be" is similar with "Rain - A Tribute" using 28 out of 31 of its songs.

"Rain - A Tribute to the Beatles" also performed at Broadway in 2010 and 2011. The rival production is asking Annerin for a 50-50 split of "Let It Be's" revenue. Legal papers filed in New York show that Rain Corporation should be listed as a joint author of Let It Be.

"Let It Be is a tribute to the Beatles, not to the four guys who impersonate the Beatles," Lawyer Peter S Cane, representative of Annerin and LIB London Limited, told BBC News website.

"How do you monopolise the ability to present an impersonation of the Beatles?"
