The Android dominates the global smartphone market. A recently released Gartner report found that for the third quarter of 2012, Android comprised 72.4 per cent of mobile sales worldwide.

It is a significant increase from 52.5 per cent for the same period in 2011. In contrast, iOS share declined to 13.9 per cent from 15 per cent and Research in Motion tumbled down to 5.3 per cent from 11 per cent.

By manufacturer, Samsung continued to dominate the overall mobile market by capturing 22.9 per cent of sales for the September quarter, followed by Nokia at 19.2 per cent and Apple at 5.5 per cent. Trailing the top three are ZTE, LG, Huawei, TCL, RIM, Motorola and HTC.

HTC is ready to join the legions of Droid smartphones with its Droid DNA, said to be the most powerful smartphone to date, superseding some of Samsung Galaxy S3's specs.

However, HTC is not the only manufacturer of Droid smartphones, Motorola was exclusive to this kind of devices for sometimes and the Droid RAZR MAXX HD is waiting for some Droid vs Droid duel.

The software technology of the Android OS platform these Droids use is not the only point of comparison for users and consumers, but also the hardware and durability as well. Both manufacturers are known for premium materials used to protect their devices from scratches, scrapes, dust, and water too.

Droid RAZR Maxx HD: 2G/3G/4G LTE

Body and Design

Droid DNA: 141 x 70.5 9.7mm, 138g

Droid RAZR Maxx HD: 131.9 x 67.9 x 9.3mm, 157g

Display Properties

Droid DNA: 5.0 inches, 1080x1920 HD display (441 ppi) with Super LCD 3 and multitouch support. HTC Sense UI 4+

Droid RAZR Maxx HD: 4.7 inches 720x1280 HD (312 ppi) with Super AMOLED and multitouch support.

For some critics, the Super LCD is much better than Super AMOLED, and with numbers, the HTC Droid DNA has better pixel quality, higher resolution and the UI effect gives it a plus.

Protection Details

Droid DNA: Corning Gorilla Glass 2

Droid RAZR Maxx HD: Corning Gorilla Glass + DuPont KEVLAR fibers + Water Splash Guard

Among droids, Motorola has powered most of their units with optimum protection and this is vital since many of these hi-tech units can be damaged unintentionally, which could lead to cracks and scrapes. So far HTC units have strong casing as well from premium materials.

Droid DNA: GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/WiFi and Hotspot/Bluetooth 4.0/NFC/USB 2.0

Droid RAZR Maxx HD: GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/WiFi and Hotspot/Bluetooth 4.0/NFC/USB 2.0

The only battle will set once both devices uses the same mobile network data service under all classification. But today, most people use Wi-Fi for web functions and usually the processor and the browser carries the burden during the data transfer.

Special Feature

Droid DNA has not yet fully clarified of any special and unique features but with its new technology in imaging and hardware, it is a good key to taking a larger slice of the smartphone market.

Droid RAZR Maxx HD has SMARTACTIONS which extends the battery life intelligently and even automatically if desired. The feature is even extended to the user for manual setup. The two droids are still challenged which is going to go down first when its video streaming in HD are used continuously. Motorola made their droids efficient in this mode.

The Droid Guy, however, reminded techies that a huge market share is not an indicator that one platform is better than the other, except phones with older OS. The Android may work well for some, but others may prefer the iOS. "None of us have really experienced the 'perfect' smartphone which is mainly because we all have our own likes and dislikes, which means we would all need our own unique smartphone," wrote the Droid Guy.
