The popular and talented pop superstar Rihanna is set to appear in the final season of “Bates Motel,” where she will play the iconic character Marion Crane.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “Bates Motel” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

Those who have seen Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” might remember the character who was the victim of Norman Bates in Hollywood’s most devastating and bloody shower scene. The original Marion Crane was portrayed by Janet Leigh. The casting news was announced at the San Diego Comic Con.

According to Vanity Fair, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin have taken particular notice of Rihanna’s liking for the series, since she earlier said in an interview that she is a huge fan. They added that they “wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”

Truly, Rihanna’s unique talent and appeal coupled with her fandom could just give the franchise the ending it truly deserves. While that could get fans expecting the final season to be as unforgettable as “Psycho” itself, Cuse says that they will not be making a blow by blow recreation of the original source, writes TV Line.

Cuse adds that it would be boring to merely recreate Psycho as it exactly was and that they would want to make it their own version. After all, it could be beautiful in a very different way when geniuses give it a spark of their own originality.

The addition of Marion Crane could almost already indicate that the season might end in the exact same manner as 1960s cult classic did. How exactly the genius team behind “Bates Motel” would add their flavour into some of horror cinema’s most iconic scenes is yet to be revealed in the show’s final season.

What is sure for now is that fans are in for a treat for because the production team behind the show is going all in for the end. “Bates Motel” season 5 is expected to return in March 2017 on the A&E Network. It also airs on Fox in Australia.
