Set in the early 14th century, Kurt Sutter’s post “Sons of Anarchy” TV series “The Bastard Executioner” is currently in production in Wales with wife Katey Sagal as one of the cast members. The FX upcoming series follows a knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows not to use his sword again.

To be played by an unknown Australian theatre actor Lee Jones, Sutter’s new leading man is set to pick up the bloodiest sword of all after violence finds him again. Jones is set to play Wilkin Brattle, a spiritually tortured former knight who traded his life of wars to a simple agrarian life.

Here are the five things to watch out for “Sons of Anarchy” series creator Kurt Sutter’s new series, “The Bastard Executioner.”

  1. Hot Men. Charlie Hunnam may not be in here but Sutter’s new TV series is packed with hot men with swords. Like SOA’s Jax Teller, Lee’s Wilkin Brattle is “emotionally deep” as the story centers around his struggle to go back to his previous life. Another Hollywood hunk in the show is “True Blood” actor Stephen Moyer who is set to play Milus Corbett, a street-smart noble who is used to be one of Ventris’ marshals.
  2. “Sons of Anarchy” Crossover. Known for playing SAMCRO’s matriarch Gemma Teller, Sagal joined her husband for the second time around as she plays Annora of the Alders. Sagal’s character was described as mystical and beautiful woman who offers predictions, cures and potions. Another SOA star to join Sutter is Timothy V. Murphy (Galen O’Shay) who is scheduled to play Father Rusin, a former soldier who left the army to join the seminary.
  3. Kurt Sutter. After playing the tortured Otto Delaney, the #TBX series creator is also set to join the cast as the Dark Mute, the mate and guardian of Annota. His character was described as someone who rarely speaks and no one’s ever seen his face.
  4. Historical Drama. Part of the plot of “The Bastard Executioner” is set to deal with Madog ap Llywelyn Welsh rebellion. The show will be filed alternately between England and Wales and one of its location is the battle-worn Caerphilly Castle in South Wales. The medieval fortification was constructed by Gilbert de Clare and has endured several big battles in the past.
  5. Ensemble Cast. Aside from Sagal and Moyer, the #TBX ensemble cast include “The Americans” Matthew Rhys for a guest-starring role as Gruffudd y Blaidd, the leader of the Welsh rebels and “Penny Dreadful” Danny Sapani as Berber the Moor, an educated man who converted himself as a Muslim and a friend of Wilkin.
