The Australian Tax Office website is offline for almost 24 hours from Monday, and the Federal Government is scrambling to fix the issue. It has informed its users that the website will remain offline throughout the night until the hardware issue is resolved.

A statement on Twitter said that the website will remain offline while the staff work on the issue overnight.

We’re investigating issues with our online services, portals and our website as a priority,” a statement said. The office also apologised for the inconvenience and asked its users to stay tuned for more details. The ATO also assured that no taxpayer information has been compromised, adding that the outage was caused by hardware failure, and not because of any external factor.

“You have tried to access the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website. Our website is currently not available. We apologise for the inconvenience and assure you of our commitment to provide you with the best possible experience of using our online services. We thank you for your patience as we work to restore our services,” a message on ATO's website reads.

ATO seems unable to give an exact time as to when its services will be restored. But the agency said that it is working overnight to fix the issue. As of the time of writing, its system is still experiencing an outage.
