Australia’s 250 commercial and public radio networks will start streaming its programs via a single app across the globe late next month.

This was after the players of the Australian radio industry united to launch RadioApp, which allows listeners throughout Australia and across the globe to listen to 250 radio stations through the internet.

Developed by All in Media (AIM) RadioApp was unveiled Friday at the Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) conference in Melbourne. The app is currently free-of-charge to download on Apple App Store and Google Play. However, RadioApp is yet to start its streaming service by late November.

According to CRA chief executive Joan Warner, RadioApp will allow listeners to find a radio station through any platform or device they use.

"We operate in a highly competitive industry, so it is great to have strong collaboration across both commercial and public broadcasters on a platform that will serve up live Australian content to radio listeners everywhere," she said.

Based on CRA data, over 12 million people listen to Australian radio stations every week. Australians listen to an average of six hours a week to radio through old streaming apps like TuneIn Radio, iHeart Radio and others.

With RadioApp, listeners can listen to live Australian radio programs covering music, live sports, talk shows and news. It also lets users to set a particular radio station under the app’s built-in wake-up or doze off functions.

Listeners can search radio stations by genre, name and location. The RadioApp also recommends local stations based on its geo-location technology.
