The Asus VivoPC X compact gaming desktop PC is now available. The computer, which was first unveiled in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2017), is optimised for virtual reality (VR) immersion. It houses a 7th generation Intel Core processor with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 10 series graphics card in its slim 5-litre chassis, is fully compatible with the latest VR headsets and includes a wide range of connectivity options.

The VR-ready desktop PC packs a 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, a 2,133 MHz DDR4 memory and a 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD. The new system can handle a slew of VR-based entertainment, including virtual tours, 360-degree videos or 4K Ultra HD movies. It’s Oculus certified, but is absolutely compatible with the latest VR headgear out in the market.

The VivoPC X can handle up to 4K UHD display with 3,840 x 2,160) resolution, and up to three FHD displays at the same time. G-SYNC synchronises the monitor’s refresh rate to the system’s graphics card via the DisplayPort to reduce screen tearing, stutter and input lag. The desktop also features extensive peripheral and connectivity options, including four USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort.

Also included in the new Asus system is the Sonic Suite, which includes both Sonic Studio and Sonic Rader. Sonic Studio employs a combination of hardware and audio tuning software to enhance gaming experience while Sonic Radar is a gaming aid that allows users to detect enemies via an on-screen overlay.

With its compact 5-litre chassis, the new desktop is no larger than a gaming console. But even with its small frame, the Asus VivoPC X has an efficient thermal design that helps draw heat away from the processor. Interested buyers can get the new VR-ready system for US$799 in the US and AU$1,599 in Australia.
