Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed that his personnel's focus on defense won them the game against Dortmund in the Champions League on Thursday (AEST).

The Gunners took an early one-goal lead, thanks to a wonderful strike by Yaya Sanogo only two minutes after kick-off, while Alexis Sanchez doubled it in the second-half. It was apparent that they have learned their lessons from previous games well. They wasted a three-goal advantage against Anderlecht, and bowed to Swansea City despite scoring the opener.

"We had a good start and overall it was a very intense game between two very good teams where you had to fight for every ball and be focused," said the French mentor.

"I felt we had a good combination between our usual passing game and our transition from defence to attack. "

"We were highly focused to defend well together from the first to the last minute and we always looked dangerous. Defensively we were very good as well."

While it looks like the Gunners have gotten some confidence back, they were dealt with more injury woes, as Mikel Arteta and goalscorer Sanogo have sustained respective blows.

"The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight," he added.

"The first one is Mikel Arteta who has another calf problem and that looks quite serious. We also lost Yaya Sanogo to a hamstring problem."
