The new Archie Andrews revealed in the newest comic book “Archie #1” reportedly has a celebrity lookalike. The high school charmer supposedly sports a Justin Bieber look.

The reincarnation of Riverdale High School’s favourite character gets a total makeover. Gone are the days of the buck-toothed Archie, who was lovingly adored by girls in the previous issues of the “Archie” comic books. Instead, according to Bloomberg, the new Archie is now a Justin Bieber lookalike.

His 1960s polyester pants have been replaced with skinny jeans as seen in this photo shared by Time magazine. Archie also now has a trendier haircut with his old bangs now styled into spikes. Archie Andrew’s chubby cheeks have also been replaced with a chiselled jawbone. “Archie #1” has totally revamped the titular character into a good-looking hippy teenager.

Fellow “Archie” characters Betty and Jughead also had a total makeover. Archie’s best friend Jughead still wears a crown but he reportedly looks more like a stoner than a clown. Betty is a modern teenager who is now endowed with more facial expressions compared to her 1950’s counterpart. Veronica is yet to be revealed as the publisher has reportedly left her out in the first comic in the new “Archie #1” series.

“Archie #1” has also incorporated the modern means of entertainment among teenagers in the new generation. Gone are the days in the beach or trips to the mall where the gang used to hang out. Instead, the new characters are Instagramming and texting.

According to Time magazine, “Archie #1” was unveiled during the recent San Diego Comic-Con on Wednesday, June 8. Jon Goldwater, chief executive officer of Archie Comics, realised that “Archie” was moving down the path of irrelevancy” so they decided to do an overhaul. Goldwater, who reportedly also called for the character's death last year, had explained his reason behind the relaunch of the 75-year old comic book.

“I really wanted to aim for the comic book shops and the real comic book reader and do a complete relaunch of Archie,” he said.

Apparently, his decision to relaunch the old-time favourite comics had its financial benefit. Goldwater said that so far he's seen “Archie #1” has the highest sales revenue in the past six years.
