With Apple's recent unveiling of its highly anticipated watch aptly called Apple Watch, a lot of people are curious to know how it compares to other watches in the market. Since Apple and Samsung have been such tight competitors especially in the smartphone and tablets department, let's see how their respective watches hold up against each other. Because Samsung Galaxy Gear has a number of watches in their line already, let's pick the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live to compare it with Apple Watch. There are three Apple Watch collections and these are the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport and the Apple Watch Edition.

2. Apple Watch Sport - . Strengthened Ion-X glass display with anodized aluminum cases in space gray or silver and durable bands in various colors.

- Display: Energy efficient Retina display

- Force Touch: recognizes between a mere tap and a deep press on the screen which triggers specific controls.

- Glances: makes summaries of frequently used information, such as maps or weather forecast, available at a glance just by swiping up from the watch face

- Siri: Sends a message through Siri without typing a single word. Just ask Siri to text a contact, dictate your message and then, send it out.

- Taptic Engine Linear Actuator: produces haptic feedback or it taps the wearer of the Apple Watch on the wrist. It can also be used to tap another person who is also wearing an Apple Watch. Or better yet, you can send someone you fancy, your actual heartbeat.

- Custom Heart Rate Sensor: helps estimate one's intensity to help improve the tracking of calories.

- GPS - helps measure the distance when traveling and doing activities like cycling.

- Accelerometer: Counts your steps, measures total body activity and helps calculate the calories burned throughout the day.

- MagSafe technology with inductive charging - allows users to charge effortlessly by just holding the connector near the back of the Apple Watch. Then, magnets located in the area will just snap it into place.

- WatchKit Apps

- Apple TV and iTunes

- Remote for iSight Camera

- Passbook: keeps tickets, loyalty cards and boarding passes. Also allows the secure use of credit and debit cards.

- Apple Pay: the Apple Watch can be used to pay for items such as coffee or food.

- Sketch: Simply use your finger to sketch something on the watch display

- Walkie-Talkie: Can be used to talk to friends without having to call them.

According to the official website of Apple Watch, it is compatible with the iPhone 5 or later iPhone models (iPhone 6). It makes use of the watch crown found in other traditional watches. But, it takes it a step further by making it digital and using it not just to adjust time, but also to zoom in or zoom out, navigate or return to the Home screen. It also allows users to receive real-time notifications for incoming calls, messages and mail. And, they can answer or dismiss those instantly.

According to the official website of the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live, it is compatible with any smartphone that has an Android 4.3, Jelly Bean OS or higher. Also, it has this cool feature wherein you can just say "OK Google" to ask a question and your answer gets searched for in Google. Plus, it has a built-in pedometer and heart rate monitor to keep track of your health and fitness.

Apple Watch vs. Samsung Galaxy Gear Live:

Of course, if you use an iPhone, then the natural choice would be to get the Apple Watch over the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live and vice versa.

But, based on its features alone, the Apple Watch surely offers some innovative stuff including the Apple Pay, Passbook, Force Touch, Sketch and Walkie-Talkie which makes the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live pale in comparison. It also offers more stylish options for different types of people including colourful bands, leather bands and stainless steel bands. Although, the great thing about Samsung Galaxy Gear Live is that it has an IP67 water and dust-resistant rating and the cool "OK Google" feature. And, at $199.99, it is much more affordable than the Apple Watch which costs $349 (£217, AU$379).

However, those who want to get the Apple Watch must wait until early 2015 to get their hands on it. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Gear Live is already out in stores.
