To revive its dwindling iPhone sales, Apple is said to be equipping the successor to the iPhone 6s with top-of-the-range specs and features. The incorporation of a dual rear-facing camera module in the iPhone 7 could be the game changer for Apple this year.

However, a newly released research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo points out that the new dual-lens camera module will only be exclusive to the bigger screened premium iPhone 7 Plus (Pro).

According to Kuo, the dual-camera set up is meant only for the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus model, and not the 4-inch iPhone 7, reports Mac Rumours. Kuo has an amazing track record for predicting upcoming Apple iPhone features, but as of this writing there is no official confirmation from Apple about whether either phones will come with a dual-lens camera.

If it is introduced, the dual-camera set-up will feature a regular wide-angle lens along with a secondary telephoto lens. This will enable users to take advantage of different focal lengths while capturing images and recording videos.

Kuo's new note is supported by a probable photo of the iPhone 7 Plus (Pro) which surfaced online last month, showing a slightly protruding dual-lens camera unit on its back panel. The purported iPhone 7 Plus in the image displays a dual-camera set-up in a pill-shaped enclosure, whereas earlier renders had pointed towards two separate camera units.

There have also been rumours circulating that Apple may include a optical image stabilisation (OIS) feature, which is absent in the iPhone 6s, for its upcoming iPhones. Apple is also speculated to include a new zoom functionality made by LinX, an Israeli tech company known for making multi-aperture camera models for mobile devices, for its next generation iPhones.

Apple had acquired LinX Computational Imaging Ltd. for about $20 million in April 2015.

Apple is yet to announce the official iPhone 7 release date. The Cupertino-based tech company may launch the next generation of iPhones at its fall event in September 2016.
