The International Data Corporation (IDC), a U.S. market research firm, has reported that the all new iPad Pro has outsold its rivals such as Microsoft Surface and other tablets. Apple has managed to sell more iPad Pro units than the Microsoft Surface products in the last quarter of 2015.

According to IDC, Apple shipped 2 million units of iPad Pro in the fourth quarter of previous year. However, Microsoft managed to ship only 1.6 million units of Surface products. The market research revealed that Apple accounted for 24.5 percent of worldwide market share of tablet sales and it shipped 16.1 million tablets, Mac Rumors reported.

According to Senior Research Analyst with IDC, Jitesh Ubrani, even though the iPad Pro has met lukewarm reviews, it is currently the bestselling detachable tablet. One needs to be aware of the fact that iPad shipments have been consistently. In the last quarter of 2014, Apple had held a global tablet market share of 28.1 percent and it had shipped 21.4 million iPads.

The decline in Apple’s market share and tablet shipping rate could be that it did not sell too many tablets during the recent holiday shopping season. Also, the Cupertino company did not release an iPad Air model in the previous year. However, the iPad Pro has met with a successful start.

Samsung with 13.7 percent market share holds the second position for the largest tablet vendor after Apple. It shipped 9 million units of tablets in 2015’s last quarter. The remaining brands that constitute the top 5 tablet vendors according to global shipments include Amazon with 5.2 million, Lenovo with 3.2 million and Huawei with 2.2 million.

The iPad sales have been declining consistently since the past eight quarters. However, iPad sales are expected to improve with the launch of the rumored iPad Air 3 in March this year.
