Apple Inc's latest iPhone commercial has gone viral with touching family moments set against the picturesque winter landscape of Edmonton, Canada. Apple has released a television ad for the iPhone 5 earlier in the week. People who saw the ad recognised the winter background as Edmonton.

Apple's latest commercial tells the story of a typical family gathering and spending time for the holidays complete with doting grandparents. The story revolves around a distracted male teen who keeps on tinkering with his iPhone when others around him were spending quality time together and having fun.

All the while, the boy was busy recording everything on his iPhone so he can come up with a home video to show to his parents. It was a touching scene when family members grew teary-eyed when they saw what the boy had recorded on his iPhone.

The new ad titled "Misunderstood" is inspiring for its message. Although Edmonton is not mentioned in the Apple ad, Canadian viewers will be delighted to see a familiar setting.

According to Edmonton Economic Development Corporation film commissioner Brad Stromberg, Edmonton was selected by the ad producers because they felt the city had what they were looking for. The producers had looked at pictures of Edmonton before making the final decision.

Apple Canada did not give any comment regarding the decision to make Edmonton as the location of the ad.

Sales boost

Apple's new commercial is also an effort to boost the sales of its iPhones including the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5S supply is catching up with demand thereby attracting more customers to buy in time for the holidays.

Apple Inc's iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S have outsold Samsung Galaxy S4 based on global sales in October, according to Counterpoint's report. Counterpoint's Market Pulse noted the Apple's iPhone 5S retained the no. 1 spot for worldwide smartphone sales despite dealing with supply shortages that gave customers no choice but to wait for their orders to arrive. Since the supply of the iPhone 5S finally meets the demand, research firm Counterpoint expects Apple to meet stronger demand this November and December.

Ahead of Samsung's S4 is the iPhone 5, which ranked second place. The older-generation iPhone remains a popular choice among smartphone consumers, leaving the Galaxy S4 in 3rd place. The iPhone 5C, Apple's cheaper iPhone, also enjoys strong sales at the no. 4 spot followed by Samsung Galaxy Note 3 at 5th place.
