It was a copy editor's nightmare. An unnecessary apostrophe in Myer's sign spread across Australia is now the subject of lampoon in social networking sites.

The new campaign for Myer stores for Boxing Day had the slogan: Early bird get's the right size. A seven-storey banner with the error was most conspicuously noticed inside the atrium plaza of Myer's flagship stores in Bourke St., Melbourne.

The grammatical error, noticed by eagle-eyed shoppers, was the subject of lampoon in social media sites as they posted pictures of the mistake. The bloggers did not only make fun of the unneeded apostrophe but also recalled other spelling and grammatical lapses of Myer in the past.

No sooner had the words apostrophe and @myer_mystore became trending in Twitter that another Myer sign which had the spelling error Satruday, instead of Saturday, was notices by bargain hunters.

The retailer acknowledged the mistake and promised to correct it.

Shoppers advised Myer to take advantage of the hype created by the grammatical error by offering a one-day sale.
