It’s been more than three months that Google released its latest Android operating system. In 2016, many flagship devices including Sony Xperia Z series are awaiting the Marshmallow update.

Trends indicate that smartphone manufacturers generally release the latest versions of OS to the most recently released handsets. Sony is reportedly bringing in noted improvements in the v6.0 of the Android OS to make it compatible with their devices. According to Know Your Mobile, the Japanese electronics giant will release the update for the entire Xperia Z5 line-up in January.

Recent reports reveal that Sony will roll out the update for Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact first. Older devices like Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3 will soon follow. Wi-Fi alliance has already certified the Sony Xperia Z4 in Japan, which means that the OTA (over-the air) update will soon be rolled out to the devices in Japan followed by other markets.

In the meantime, Sony has already announced that more than 10,000 Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact owners in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany can upgrade to Marshmallow through the company’s test programme. This gives a strong indication that the firmware update will soon hit the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact handsets.

A report in Mobipicker suggests that Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 owners may also get the chance to enjoy the new features bundled in with Marshmallow soon. Previously, Sony mentioned in a blog post that the latest version of Android operating system will also be rolled out to Xperia Z2 Tablet , Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z4 Tablet.

Last year, after the public release of Marshmallow, prominent OEMs including LG, Motorola and HTC have already started rolling out the update to their top-end devices. Google announced the Android 6.0 Marshmallow with its latest LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P.
