Tired of listening to the old, classic songs rehashed by hopefuls on “American Idol?” It looks like the new officials overseeing the production of Season 13 have finally listened to calls for change of the show’s catalog. Does this mean we will have to hear less of what judges’ favorite remarks, “making it your own.”

While it sure is a good move for a contestant on any reality singing competition to give his or her own take on a piece by making any song his or her own, it might as well be a good way to have them sing a song with renditions close to their generation.

“Idol” new Executive Producer, Per Blankens reveals that there will be a lot of changes in the upcoming season of the popular Fox reality show. One of these is having a new song catalog.

With these new format and welcome format on ‘Idol,” contestants will enjoy a new list of songs - - and it comes with songs written and produced in recent years. Though fans are warned not to keep their hopes up - - at least not that much - - as there will still be theme weeks when everyone will hear songs by Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Elton John and Barbara Streissand, among others.

But the good news is, we can also expect to hear more Katy Perry, Rihanna, Jesse James, maybe even, Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball.”

Blankens took it safe when he noted that the changes to expect this season may not be “too radical” as everyone may have wanted or assumed to have as the microphone gets held in performances on the show.

The EP of American edition of “American Idol” pointed out however, that it doesn’t “mean we’re going to do Billboard Top 10 every week.”

"There was no need to really come up with one big new gimmick," Blankens was quoted as saying by Buddy TV.

Another “Idol” EP, Trish Kinane noted that “There's a bit of a shock element to it."

Meanwhile, Blankens insisted that contestants will have more options this year than they had had in the past 12 seasons.

He said, "That doesn't mean we're going to do Billboard Top 10 every week. But if someone wants to sing a current song, they're going to at least have the choice."

In the new song catalog set to use for Season 13, it is expected that more modern tracks will be added to what audience has perceived as very “stale catalog.”

Will “American Idol” finally attract more audience and younger ones for that matter? Will it help the show’s plummeting ratings? Will American Idol redeem its glory days?

More questions.
