'Empire' Season 2 returns March 30
“American Idol” 2016 Top 5 announcement aired on Fox on March 17. Idol alum Adam Lambert graced the special episode with an upgraded version of his 2009 cover of “Mad World” by Tears For Fears. “Empire” actors Jussie Smollett and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray were also in the house to perform “Never Let It Die.”

“American Idol” 2016 judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. picked Sonika to stay. Her rendition of “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen” (Demi Lovato version) came out better for the judges, compared to Tristan’s cover of “Independence Day” by Carrie Underwood.
For his second number on the 2016 Top 5 night, Adam Lambert dished his new song, “Welcome to the Show,” a fitting tune for the reality-based singing competition that launched his music career seven years ago. He finished a runner-up to AI Season 8 winner Kris Allen, but Lambert was the top-earning Idol in 2015, according to Gigwise. When Lambert sang “Mad World” again, the audience was lost in nostalgia and awe.
Jussie and Yazz thrilled fans who have been awaiting the next part of “Empire” Season 2, which returns to Fox on March 30. “Never Let It Die” is a song about the connection between family and music, with lyrics that depict the latest crisis to hit the series’ Empire Entertainment founders.
