Australia will have its local version of “The Amazing Race”, considered to be one America’s ‘sturdiest and consistently entertaining reality franchises’, says The Sydney Morning Herald.

Titled, “The Amazing Race Australia”, the local version of one of the longest-running reality competition will be hosted by Grant Bowler.
''I was thinking it might be something like 'Let's race around Launceston','' Bowler was quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald in sharing what he imagined what the reality powerhouse would be like when he was first offered to host the show in Australia.

The local version received a hand from the Director of photography of The Amazing Race, Per Larrson.

Flying in to Australia, Larrson provided the local staff some useful tips on how the local version will have the feel of its original show, he described as the only “true” reality show on television. Larrson has worked on the US series since 2001.

''It's basically live TV,'' he was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald. ''You are out there with the teams, following them and capturing them succeeding or failing. It's as is. It's a race, so you can't ask them to redo. The speed gives it a raw look.''

Reminding the local executives ways how ''everything is done the same way visually'', Larrson added: ''This is a format you need to follow to get the same look,'' he says. ''I taught them how we shoot it in the US and created the look for the show. It's very difficult when you have 11 cameras in 11 different locations. You have to trust them. It has to be seamless.''

The first season of the Amazing Race Australia will be aired on Channel 7, beginning Monday, May 16.
