'AlDub Fever' reaches Australia after 'Imagine You and Me' premiere

The Philippines' AlDub sensation goes international as the couple’s anticipated movie, "Imagine You and Me," is expected to hit theatres Down Under on July 30. Google reports show AlDub (Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards) as one of the hottest trending topics in Australia.

AlDub is the phenomenal pairing between young celebrities Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards. The couple first appeared in the segment. The couple first appeared in the segment "Juan for All, All for Juan" on "Eat Bulaga!" the variety show on the Filipino channel, GMA Network. Nobody, from casts to director, purportedly expected that the couple would become a huge hit.

Alden is a talent under GMA while Maine rose to her celebrity status after her dubsmash videos went viral. Being cast as “Yaya Dub” in the variety show, Mendoza was revealed to have had a crush on Richards. This was the seed to their now famous love team.

As reported by Inquirer, the pair is having their first anniversary on July 16, and to celebrate it with their dedicated fans, AlDub has released their second movie.

The romance flick “Imagine You and Me” was directed by Mike Tuviera. It officially opened on July 13. It’s the second film of AlDub after their comedy hit “My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore.” To prove the popularity of the couple, GMA News reported that only hours after the movie premiere, “Imagine You and Me” was hailed a box-office hit with grosses reaching P13 million.

“Imagine You and Me” tells the story of Andrew (Alden), a heartbroken man based in Italy, and Gara (Maine), a hopeless romantic who works in the same country as an overseas Filipino worker. Fate lets the two meet, but the question lies whether they end up together or not as the two of them have totally different perspectives in love.

AlDub fans have gone all-out in showing their support through posting in different social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Of course the accompanying hashtag is not to be neglected: #AlDubImagineYouAndMe.

Google reports show AlDub topping the entertainment search trends in Australia alongside Selena Gomez, Darude, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris among others.
