The Sydney International Wine Competition turned out to be a paradisiacal event for the wine lovers in Australia as some of the finest and easy on budget wines were introduced and were awarded a coveted Blue Gold medal.

Nearly 1812 wines were in for a competition in Sydney and only 269 out of them were awarded the coveted Blue Gold medals. Aldi emerged as the big winner of the competition amongst the entrants that represented 100 grape varieties and blends. What came as a surprise at the Sydney International Wine Competition was that a $5 bottle of rose from Aldi won the competition against some of its over-the-top expensive counterparts.

Aldi's 2015 South Point rose was the star ingredient of the event and won accolades for its quality and was amongst the other 269 winners to win a coveted Blue Gold medal. In addition to the $5 bottle of rose, Aldi’s $12.99 Tudor shiraz and a Blackstone Paddock “The Player” Barossa shiraz worth $14.99, also bagged medals in the competition. Tudor shiraz won the trophy for Best Lighter Bodied Dry Red.

Kym Milne, the judge at the do, was quite smitten by the quality of the beverages that raised the bar of the competition.

“This wine competition is all about providing the consumer with a range of wine options for a range of different dining situations,” News.co.au quoted Milne. “A real diversity of wine styles, produced from an ever increasing range of grape varieties have been awarded either Top 100, Blue Gold, Gold or Highly Commended status,” he added.

Milne revealed that the competition was helpful for the consumers who had very little knowledge about wines. This competition will make them more confident while opting for the “trophy winners.”
