For the past couple of months, fans of the hit erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L James have obsessed on whom among Hollywood hottest actors could portray the male lead character Christian Grey in an upcoming movie adaptation.

An early fan favorite, actor Ian Somerhalder told fans at "The Vampire Diaries" convention that he is going to meet with the "Fifty Shades of Grey" film team.

The good-looking actor who portrays a vampire in the hit TV series "The Vampire Diaries" did not exactly give any details on whom he would meet on the film team but he revealed that he is leaving for Los Angeles next week. Somerhalder has been reported to be interested in portraying Christian Grey and his announcement made the fans clap and holler at the convention hall.

"Fans were thrilled," an attendee at the convention named Kimberly Perek shared. "We have been wanting information like this for so long so everyone flipped," Perek added.

Fans are definitely excited over this development in the casting process yet it is just one of the steps to be done in the much anticipated movie. The "Fifty Shades of Grey" will probably meet with several actors to find out who can portray the role of Christian Grey. According to reports, the author of the novel will give the final approval for all of the casting decisions.

Meanwhile, film producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have shot down the casting rumors according to reports. Producer Dana Brunetti is claimed to be not aware about the meeting with actor Ian Somerhalder.

Recently, the producers appeared on CNBC's Squawk Box and reiterated that they were only focusing on finding a screenwriter and director before proceeding into casting. Will De Luca and Brunetti choose actor Ian Somerhalder in portraying Christian Grey in the upcoming film?
