Watching horror films could be deadly, especially for people with heart conditions. A 65-year-old Indian man died of heart attack while watching “The Conjuring 2” in Tamil Nadu, India.

Indiatoday reports the incident happened on Thursday night. The victim, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was watching "The Conjuring 2" in a Tiruvannamalai cinema and was accompanied by another person when he had difficulty holding on to his breath.

By the time the film’s climax came, the old man complained of chest pain and became unconscious, reports Daily Mail. He was rushed to the Old Government Hospital where he was declared dead.

However, the mystery does not stop with his death because paramedics asked the person who accompanied the victim to the movie house to bring the corpse to the Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital for postmortem. But his corpse and the man who accompanies him are both missing.

The Hindu reports that the friend was seen bringing the body of the old man, with the help of an auto rickshaw, to their accommodation. The two are reportedly staying at an ashram, a spiritual heritage.

According to Bustle, watching horror films such as “The Conjuring 2” – which has grossed over $104 million globally – causes heart and breathing rates to explode. Since movies of that genre are contained and mass-markets fear, suspense of the unknown or sudden shock of the appearance of an antagonist causes the body to experience terror which is felt more directly in the heart.

It would result in an increase in blood flow from the heart to the extremities which is a very “sensible evolutionary reaction to fear.” Muscles also tense, cortisol levels go up, the eyes move more, adrenalin level spikes and particular brain genetics react.

A 2013 study found that brain chemistry plays a significant role in how a person responds to potential sources of fear or distress.
