Many people cannot live without toothpaste. The product is very important in any household to keep your mouth and teeth clean and fresh. However, other people swear by natural breath fresheners that can effectively substitute toothpaste. Here are five natural fresheners that some people use in exchange for regular toothpaste.

1. Salt

Salt is very effective in keeping your teeth and gums healthy. It has cleansing and antimicrobial properties that will prevent bad breath and the buildup of plaque and tartar. Salt also has natural healing effects which make it ideal for treating gum problems, based on a report by Ready Nutrition.

2. Baking soda

The kitchen product is a usual alternative to toothbrush because of its various uses. Baking soda will help remove plaques, tartars and stains on your teeth. It is also safe to consume and will keep your oral cavity and teeth clean and fresh-smelling for hours. Baking soda can reduce acids that can damage tooth enamel and trigger bad breath.

3. White clay

LiveStrong suggested that you grind and mix white clay with sea salt, peppermint oil and boiling water. As soon as the blend cools, apply it in your mouth and teeth. White clay is excellent in strengthening your teeth and preventing tooth decay.

4. Essential oils

Aside from peppermint oil, other types of oil will also be good in cleansing your teeth and keeping your breath fresh. Spearmint oil, clove oil and cinnamon oil have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that will prevent the proliferation of microorganisms in your mouth. You will avoid tartar, stains and plaque buildup by using these in your natural mix every time.

5. Hydrogen peroxide

The substance is ideal for treating canker sores, gingivitis and other tooth and mouth diseases. Hydrogen peroxide may be diluted with water to eliminate bacteria, fungus and other microorganisms that may reside in your oral cavity. Brush your teeth using the solution or use it as a mouthwash for best results. Find out how best to use it and do so with discretion, of course.

You can further explore other natural breath fresheners like aloe vera and coconut oil. These are also common house items that will render long term benefits.
