The United States of America is now vigilant after the tragic 2013 Boston Marathon blast that reportedly killed three people and injured more than 100 people. US President Barack Obama promised the victims that the people responsible for the attack will receive "the full weight of justice" as he ordered federal agencies to help in preventing further "acts of terrorism" through increased vigilance.

"We're continuing to monitor and respond to the situation as it unfolds. We still do not know who did this or why and people shouldn't jump to conclusions before we have all the facts," President Obama recently stated in a brief statement.

The US President further added to the reporters: "But make no mistake, we will get to the bottom of this. We will find out who did this, we will find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice."

An unnamed White House official declared that the Boston Marathon blast will be dealt with as an act of terrorism. "Any event with multiple explosive devices, as this appears to be, is clearly an act of terror and will be approached as an act of terror. A thorough investigation will have to determine whether it was planned and carried out by a terrorist group, foreign or domestic," the official stated.

According to the Boston police, there is a possibility that the explosives were placed inside garbage cans. The double blast occurred approximately 100 meters apart injuring the spectators and the runners who were approaching the finish line. Windows were shattered and witnesses shared seeing the thick smoke rise at least 15m (50ft) into the air.

The event was supposed to be fun and filled with cheer but the unexpected blast turned the place into chaos and full of screams. Emergency workers and the National Guardsmen were assigned at the Boston Marathon as the "crowd control" and they immediately responded in helping the victims near the blast site.

The Boston police confirmed that three people were killed but they no longer provided the details. However, an unidentified person revealed to AP that an 8-year-old boy died from the explosion.

The person further added that the little boy was at the race with his mother and sister to watch his father reach the finish line. Over 20,000 runners participated in the Boston Marathon held on Patriots Day which is a Massachusetts state holiday commemorating the first battles of the historical American Revolution in 1775.
