3News, which broke the story of the Roast Busters Facebook group of young Auckland men who allegedly rape drunken underage girls, identified one of the three gang members accused by a 13-year-old Kiwi girl of sex abuse in 2011.

He is Beraiah Hales, who attended Green Bay High School, the same school where his alleged victim also went. The mother of the girl disclosed that she complained to Green Bay officials about the incident and subsequent bullying being done by Hales on her daughter who reported the alleged rape to the police.

Hales's mother admitted her son is arrogant, but denied he is a rapist.

The police said they could not arrest the boys because of lack of a formal complaint, but on Wednesday they admitted the girl filed a formal complaint. There are speculations that the reason behind the police response is that allegedly one of the boys is the son of a police officer.

"She just kept on being bullied, sometime she would go into the toilets, she was wagging, go into the toilets crying her eyes out, stay in there so no one could find her," the mother told 3News.

The mother asked the school to expel Hales, but refused because the rape happened outside school grounds at an out-of-school party.

The school principal, Morag Hutchinson, issued a statement the she was unaware of the group Roast Busters until 3News aired the story on Sunday night. She said she became aware of the rape complaint when she was informed about it in April 2012, and in May, Hales left school.

The mother added that Beraiah also harassed her other daughter who was 12 and Hales was then only 10, but he locked her in a toilet and attempted to rip off her clothes and sexually molest her.
