In the last episode of “The 100,” titled “Terms and Conditions,” which aired on March 10, lesbian character Lexa died from a stray bullet, which infuriated several fans of the post-apocalyptic drama on The CW.

Deadline notes that Jason Rothenberg was surprised by the intense reaction from viewers, especially those from the LGBT community. He realised that the episode emotionally touched a lot of people and he apologised for it.

“We never really I think understood the power of that relationship and that character. Knowing what I know now I would have done some things differently,” Rothenberg said. He noted a number of mistakes, particularly in the events surrounded by Lexa’s death. However, he wanted to emphasise that even a powerful person like her could die by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a tragedy and he wanted to stress that life is fragile.

He continued that knowing everything that he already does not, Lexa’s death would have played out differently.

The Commander Lexa was accidentally killed by her right-hand man Titus (Neil Sandilands), after making love to her partner Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor). Shortly after she died, it was discovered that Lexa and the commanders before her had a high-tech computer chip that will be discussed more in the remaining episodes of “The 100” Season 3.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Clarke will suffer the loss of her loved one. With Lexa’s demise, a new Grounder Commander will be needed immediately. It is still uncertain who will the next leader. There are rumours that Clarke may be given the role, but tradition will most likely be followed in selecting a new commander. In the meantime, Marcus Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) was also handed a death sentence for treason.

More updates and details are expected soon.
