Spreading like wildfire, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is the latest craze in America with Hollywood celebrities taking part to raise money for the said disease by pouring a freezing cold bucket of water over their heads before nominating other people to get involved. Now trending in the UK, celebrities who accepted the challenge include controversial couple Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Chris Pratt and NBA star LeBron James.

U.S. President Barack Obama is one of the many people who was challenged to do the Ice Bucket Challenge and had to pay a $100 for not accepting it. Obama was dared by Ethel Kennedy and was recently challenged by the "Baby" singer, Weird Al Yancovic and LeBron James to raise awareness of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - also known as motor neurone disease.

The popular phenomenon has raised nearly $3 million for the ALS Association that is 50 per cent more than they raised last year thanks to many people who accepted the challenge and had spread the cause. Now, UK is gearing up to the challenge with celebrities like Darren Fletcher of Manchester United who dared fellow footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Wes Brown.

"I was challenged by a friend of mine from the New York police department who also challenged others from Canada, South Africa and Australia so I felt the need to do something special for London," revealed Suleika Henderson from Crystal Palace when she decided to her ice bucket challenge in front of London's iconic clock tower, Big Ben. "It was of course, utterly freezing, and very confusing for some of the tourists there to see Big Ben - I'm sure I'll be in a few of their holiday photos!"
