Zynga has been accused in a class-action lawsuit of sharing personal information belonging to users of the social networking site Facebook. The company, which is a partner of Facebook and makes social-games, has been accused of purposefully sharing the data.

The suit seeks to recover financial relief for Facebook users whose data was shared. It also seeks injunctive relief for prevention of "continued privacy abuses." It was filed in San Francisco federal court by Nancy Graf of St. Paul, Minn.

Zynga plans to contest the suit. A company representative said in a statement that "We believe that the complaint is without merit and we intend to defend against it vigorously."

A dispute over Facebook privacy may have contributed to the timing of the lawsuit. The Wall Street Journal published an article containing accusations that Facebook had shared user IDs with partner companies. While Facebook claimed that the accusations were exaggerated, some of their application developers, including LOLapps, were affected by the conflict.

The co-lead attorney for the lawsuit, Michael Aschenbrener of Edelseon McGuire LLC said in a statement that "This appears to be another example of an online company failing the American public with empty promises to respect individual privacy rights."
