Return to Hyrule - and the skies above - in this first look at gameplay for the Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, planned for release on #NintendoSwitch in 2022.

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" is one of the highly anticipated major titles from Nintendo and while the Japanese gaming giant has not yet revealed any new updates about the game, recent leaks have disclosed its release window, and new gameplay mechanics, which highlight how the sequel will differ from the original version.

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" will most likely release sometime in November 2022. This rumor originated from IGN Chief Content Officer, Peer Schneider during episode 591 of the Nintendo Voice Chat podcast recorded in mid-December.

Schneider, after speaking with "some people in the industry" at this year's The Game Awards, shared that the most awaited sequel is still set to release in 2022. At some point in the podcast, the IGN executive offered a more specific release window and suggested that fans would be playing the game in November 2022.

Aside from the possible release window, a recent discovery led many fans to believe that the upcoming sequel will offer interesting changes to the gameplay mechanics. As shared by Game Reactor, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" will introduce a rewind feature that players can use while solving puzzles.

This particular power will reportedly enable players to restore an item to its original position. This information came from patents published by Nintendo, which offer technicalities and concepts around gameplay moves.

In addition to the rewind feature, the patents suggest that Link will be able to free-fall both forward and backward, as well as perform aerial acrobatics. Moreover, the protagonist of Nintendo's hit series will be able to shift freely through solid platforms, given that certain conditions are met.

It is worth noting that while these details about the game's release window and gameplay mechanics are interesting, these are not official. Fans should therefore temper their expectations and take these details as highly speculative at this stage.

Interestingly, it was earlier confirmed that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" is a lot darker compared to other series installments, particularly to "Link's Awakening." Game Producer Eiji Aonuma said in June 2019 that "The new Breath of the Wild or the sequel to it, it’s not necessarily going to be related to Majora’s mask or inspired by it... What we showed you currently is a little darker."
