The latest version of uTorrent was released this week. The new release of the app no longer allows the user to disable the ad in the left corner. uTorrent's new version does not include the setting to disable ads which is disappointing for many users.

According to TorrentFreak, this new update is a disappointment for many users of uTorrent. There are close to 150 million monthly users.

Two years ago, BitTorrent Inc. declared to come out with ad-supported uTorrent. However, this move was not welcomed by the users and it led to a user revolt.

BitTorrent Inc. CEO Eric Klinker mentioned that the reaction led to the company giving users the choice to disable the ads.

"We've long contemplated an opt-out mechanism for the new offers and advertisements we will be experimenting with. Given all that's been said here, we've decided to release the initial version with an opt-out mechanism, and we will provide them with ways to do so," said Eric Klinker.

The backlash by the users compelled BitTorrent to make the visibility of ads optional. However, it was turned on by default. BitTorrent still managed to get billions of ad impressions

The new stable release version 3.4.2 no longer gives the ability to users to disable ads. Now the version does not show the "Show plus information" in the options. TorrentFreak notes that the advanced setting "gui.show_plus_upsell" is also no longer visible.

It is not clear why BitTorrent Inc. decided to remove this option. Also, the release notes do not mention about this particular ad-related change. People started asking questions in the uTorrent forums. The development team at uTorrent has not yet made a comment on the latest updates.

It is possible that this move is made in order to increase the revenue for BitTorrent Inc. Also, it has to be seen if this decision will have an impact on uTorrent's massive user base.
