The year 2018 looks to be an exciting year for games. The same can be said for the horror genre. With plenty of ghastly experiences waiting to be told through this particular form of entertainment, one can expect horror games to thrive no matter the era.

Listed below are a few big releases happening in 2018. From the cerebral to the downright terrifying, these games will mess with your mind one way or another.

‘Vampyr’ – Developer: DONTNOD Entertainment

Set in early 1990’s London, “Vampyr” is an action role-playing game focusing on Jonathan Reid, a doctor-turned-vampire. Killing is reportedly optional, as players decide which path to take. Will you be a bloodthirsty menace, or will you stick to your humane tendencies? Either way, Dr Reid needs to survive the harsh underworld, so he must use his newly acquired powers to live. The game releases sometime in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

‘Agony’ – Developer: Madmind Studio

Trailers of the game are truly disturbing, so check it out at your own risk. “Agony” is a first-person survival horror title aimed to mess with one’s sanity. You play as a soul trapped in the depths of hell. With no memory, you must brave twisted corridors of carnage, interacting with tortured souls as your progress. The character is given the ability to control and possess the minds of others, which is probably the kind of thing you’d want to have when you’re stuck in hell. The game releases on March 30 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

‘Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game’ – Developer: Cyanide

Lovecraft fans have most likely heard about this upcoming game based on the author’s story of the same name. “Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game” is reportedly based on the pen-and-paper RPG, though, but anything Lovecraft-themed is sure to terrify. You play as Edward Pierce, an investigator tasked with a case involving a family’s death on Darkwater Island. What evil lurks beyond, that one creature they call Cthulhu? You'll find out once the game launches sometime this year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
