Ubisoft releases "Assassin's Creed" on Facebook
"Companion game" allows users to link progress to upcoming console title
French videogame maker Ubisoft has made its popular "Assassin's Creed" title available to Facebook, further blurring the line between playing on consoles and the social networking Web site.
Ubisoft earlier released a "companion game" for free on Facebook. The game, which is called "Project Legacy," allows gameplay achievements from the Web site to be continued in the game's console version and vice versa.
"It's basically a back-and-forth mechanism for passing value between games that are complementary in the same universe... By tying the games together, we have people extend their experience," said Chris Early, a former Microsoft executive who now heads Ubisoft's digital publishing team.
Accomplishments in "Project Legacy" can yield experience points and virtual money that can carry over to "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood." Achievements in "Project Legacy" may unlock special features third installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise. On the other hand, progress in the console game will reward players of "Project Legacy" with access to new content.
"Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood" is scheduled for release on November 16 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
