Toshiba's newest netbook, the dual-screen Libretto W100, may be launched in Australia in the coming months. The Libretto, which has two seven-inch touch screens, can be viewed either in vertical or horizontal mode. In vertical mode, the netbook looks like an open book or newspaper.

The netbook, which is powered by an Intel Pentium ultra-low voltage chip, is Windows 7-based. Experts say that owning a Libretto W100 is similar to having two linked Apple iPads. The netbook allows users to browse through two Web pages at the same time without having to switch between tabs. Players can also have a game running on one screen and display controls on the other.

The two displays can also be put on "full screen" mode, in which a web page or document can be spread across both screens.

Toshiba Australia is yet to make a firm decision on whether it would market the Libretto W100 in the country. If the netbook is indeed released in the territory, getting it wouldn't be cheap. It is expected to go at about $1300-$1500. The decision on whether the Libretto would be released in the territory may come as soon as next month, when Toshiba celebrates the 25th anniversary of its entry into the laptop business.
